Meadors Racing ‘69 Camaro Wins Sacramento Fox Hunt!

August 19, 2009

Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing team scored their second win of the season Saturday night, taking the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod class at Sacramento Raceway’s famed “Fox Hunt”. When the final score was settled late Saturday night, Meadors had defeated all comers in what turned out to be the quickest and fastest qualified field in the history of West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod competition.

It was an old school victory for the team similar to those of the match race days when teams barnstormed drag strips across the country, blowing in during the morning, qualifying and taking the event win at night. Meadors made his one and only qualifying run Saturday around lunch time, unloading a career best 6.275 @ 231.97 to qualify 4th. Post-run inspection yielded a burned up transmission requiring a lengthy pit thrash prior to opening round eliminations which Meadors survived by pedaling his way to a 6.718 victory over a red-lighting Bob Bunker Jr.

Using the alternate transmission which threw off the tune-up completely due to different gear ratios, Meadors yet again escaped with a semi-final victory, pedaling down track to defeat the ’55 Chevy of Jay Deidrich. In the final, lady luck was again riding shotgun in Meadors’ big silver Camaro as fellow finalist Scott Bailey instantly lost traction at the start of the race – giving Meadors an easy victory. He again pedaled all the way down track to post a final round time of a 6.950 @ 187.093 for the second win of his Pro Mod career.

In similar fashion to his last Sacramento Raceway outing back in July, Meadors got the jump on his competition off the line with superior reaction times each elimination round. “The Goodguys Racing Team keeps growing and growing this year,” Meadors said. “We didn’t have the right tune-up on the car after blowing the transmission. But I’m working hard on the ‘Tree and it’s paid off. My crew chief’s Jason Bunker and Jeff Accacian with crew member Andy Fereira worked together the best they could to patch it up and get me to the starting line and we prevailed. In racing you have to catch some lucky breaks and today was ours. I’m really proud of the team for our career best ET and speed. We are gonna be tough the rest of the year.”

Walsh Boys Set New Record at Bonneville

August 12, 2009

Yes this story is published in Hot News and we don’t use this blog for that, but there is a direct connection to Goodguys and this story. Diane Walsh, longtime Goodguys employee, happens to know these record breakers very personally. The Walsh boys are her husband and son!

The News:
Long time Goodguys friends Tommy and Justin Walsh of Danville, showed ‘em how it’s done on the Bonneville Salt Flats last weekend during the annual Speed Week! On Saturday, August 8th behind the wheel of the naturally aspirated Mariani Farms family ’34 Ford A/GAS big block powered roadster, Justin shattered the class record of 236.741 running a stout 253.449!

Meanwhile, the Walsh’s other race car – the bright red 333 ’32 Ford roadster is being inducted into the Gold Coast Racing Association Hall of Fame the end of September. The Walsh boys have found much success at Bonneville over the years. The new record set this week brings their record run total up to 21!

Congratulations to the entire team.

Driving through 49 States in 9 Days for a good cause!

August 4, 2009

If you haven’t heard the word, Dave Schaub is preparing to go 49 states in 9 days! He’s tackling this amazing feat to raise money and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

Dave is a long time Goodguy member and friend. When Dave mentioned this dream journey we were immediately on board. Public Relations director John Drummond has been on board since day one, working to get the news out about “49 in 9.” Goodguys Web developer Jacob Stansky also jumped on board by donating a website through his own company. Since then Dave has already raised more than $40,000 toward his $100,000 goal through donations and sponsorships (He is asking for just a penny a mile, or $98 for his 9,800 mile drive.)

Anyone can follow along with Dave, leading up to and during the journey, by visiting www.49in9.com. On the website you can check out Dave’s car, the route, donate online and read about the days leading up to the event on Dave’s blog. Dave will also carry a SPOT GPS tracking device which will allow to visitors and fans to follow Dave live on his journey through the website!
